こんばんは! Landers です。
I would have written my name in Japanese, but I don't know how. Anyway, my first name is Tricia and this is my Japanese blog.
Why did I choose to study Japanese? I've realized gradually throughout the years that I'm very interested in learning more about their language and culture. This probably started when I first got into the Final Fantasy video game series. The games themselves do not contain much evidence of the Japanese culture, but I figured that any place that such games came from must be amazing. From these games and from Dance Dance Revolution I also started hearing many songs in Japanese, and I realized that the Japanese language is very beautiful, and I wanted to know the meaning of the lyrics of the songs I was listening to.
Recently I've played games such as Persona 3 and Persona 4, which are set in Japan and thus use many Japanese terms and are based on Japanese culture. These got me even more interested.
Of course, I've also read manga and watched anime at different points in my life, and as much as I enjoyed them, I was never as into them as some people are. The main interests I have in Japan come from video games, whether learning more through them, or the fact that if I learned Japanese I could play import games :)
My plan at the time is to end up with a minor in Japanese, but we'll see if that actually happens. I'm a computer science major, so I figure it might be useful in some aspect of whatever job I end up with. Also, I would love more than anything to be able to visit Japan someday.
And that's about it for now! Sorry this post was kind of long. じゃあ また!

You know, I've never seen Final Fantasy. It's such an epic series, and I feel very ashamed for not watching the movies or playing the video games. ): I love DDR, though! I have the game and dance mat for Xbox 360 back home, haha. (:
ReplyDeleteI also have thought about a Japanese minor. What else do we need for it?
ReplyDeleteagreed, I want to end up in Japan in some way, shape,or form before I die. I think I'll end up developing energy or being a doctor or something though, haha. Japanese is a very useful language in today's world though, with the growing influence of the country on the world's production and such. It'll be very benificial to know the langauge. And I still want my Japanese minor :(
ReplyDeleteHey I know you too! I'm one of the biggest Final Fantasy addicts of all time! Seven is the best, then eight, then ten, then twelve, and then I don't know. And I own all of the movies. I had no idea that you liked Final Fantasy. I guess I'll see you in class tomorrow! Jaa mata
ReplyDeleteI like your blog title! すてきですよ!
ReplyDeleteありがとお ございます、せんせい。
ReplyDeletePersona 3 was epic. One of the best 109 hours of my life. The final fantasy series is pretty good too ( except for X-2 and VIII ). I own the second part of Persona 2 that came out in America (Eternal Punishment). I think that you can get Persona 1 off of the Playstation Network now for PSP/PS3. I haven't beat Persona 4 yet. I still have quite a ways to go. It's good to know that there is someone I can go to for some Persona help.
ReplyDeleteWhat's your favorite FF? Mine would definitely have to be 7. I've been crazy about it since it came out! I have the entire soundtrack and everything. X is good too but I haven't had the chance to play anything past that.
ReplyDeleteAlso, DDR was my life during high school, I even made a club for it. I used to be fairly good at it but now I'm grossly out of shape. I forgot to bring the games up this semester...boo.
